Students in Years 3 and 5 sat the national tests for literacy and numeracy this week.  They were tested on spelling and grammar, writing, reading and numeracy.

I will not have an indication of the overall or individual results until much later in the year but my observations of student responses in spelling in particular were very positive.  Spelling has traditionally been our weak link in previous tests and a concerted effort this past four months is, I believe, the reason for the pending improved result.

I need to acknowledge the wonderful preparation by teachers for this testing regime.  It is not at all easy as NAPLAN is a test that cannot be studied for.  Students need years of continually high preparation, instruction and improvement to get strong results.  Our teachers deserve high praise for this.

I would also like to thank the P&C once again this year for providing snacks and morning tea for the NAPLAN students.  Gullivers Coomera kindly teamed up with us this week to provide our Year 3 and Year 5 students who sat their NAPLAN tests, with some morning tea each day before the tests started to make sure our children were all fuelled up and ready to go!  And where there were two tests on the one day, we also provided sandwiches to help refuel and refocus before their second test. We are very grateful to Gullivers Coomera for this incredible support.

As always, we ask families, when in the market for a product or service, please consider supporting a local business that supports our School and Community.  For further details on the services Gullivers provides please visit their Facebook page .

This year also saw a lovely gesture between classes.  Each class that undertook NAPLAN this year received a bag of icy-poles from a buddy class.  We are proud of the efforts of everyone involved.
