Our 2017 Choirs

Prep, Year 1, Year 2-3 & Year 4-6 Choirs

The Choirs at Coomera Rivers State School are a real highlight of our specialist music program. All students are able to join one of the school choirs and in 2017 we had over 190 students participate.

Participating in choir gives students an outlet to release some creativity and work together to create some beautiful music together. Students enjoy learning songs from both traditional and popular music genres. Weekly rehearsals have students ready to perform at a number of events.  In 2017 our choirs were provided with many opportunities to perform and showcase their talent. There were numerous assemblies, 'Busking At The Cafe' afternoons, The Active School Travel concert, our very first Time to Shine Twilight Concert and the Beenleigh Eisteddfod.

Weekly Class Music Lessons

Students from Prep to Year 6 study Music under the guidance of specialist academic teachers, who develop programmes aligned with the Australian Curriculum.  These are weekly half hour lessons where students go from learning simple songs and games to develop an awareness of beat, rhythm and self expression to reading and performing notation with percussion instruments and recorders.  Students are also given an opportunity to study music from various styles and cultural influences.

Year 2 Music

In Semester One, Year 2 students add to their known rhythms and play these rhythms out on a variety of untuned percussion instruments.  They learn new songs and games and apply their skills are knowledge learned to create and compose small rhythmic and melodic patterns.  They also explore music from other cultures with a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island People’s music.

Year 3 Music

Students in Year 3 read music from the music staff Every, Good, Boy, Deserves, Fruit (EGBDF) and Face (FACE) and adding new rhythms to their repertoire.  Students then use these skills to play written music from the music staff on glockenspiels and chime bars and also untuned percussion instruments.  Students continue to work on their singing voices and discover different ways to sing in groups; sometimes all together (unison) and also in parts at the same time (canon and partner songs).
