Today saw twenty students and three teachers from eight schools across the Gold Coast and Brisbane come to Coomera Rivers for an iPlay Day of Excellence. Mrs Pinnington has been working with these Gold Coast and Brisbane schools since last term offering professional development for teachers, weekly lesson ideas to implement in their own schools and a culminating Day of Excellence for three high performing students from each school.
The iPlay, whole-day design challenge involved visiting students learning about the role of a games designer to design and create an educational computer game with Sketch Nation. The games were created to teach a younger student about a sustainability concept eg: reduce, re-use, recycle or animal conservation.
Four CRSS students who excelled with this STEAM design challenge in 2017 enjoyed the role of being student mentors. Well done to mentors Sophie, Slayter, Kyle and Lara from 6W for assisting visiting students with their computer games. The CRSS mentors assisted with judging the games against the design criteria and awarded trophies to students for 'Most Creative Game Visuals', 'Best Game Play' and 'Best Overall Game'.
Next week, we will see more visiting students and teachers who have been participating in the iCode program with Mrs Pinnington come for their Day of Excellence. Their design challenge will be to produce an anti-cyberbullying iMovie featuring a coded Dash robot as the main character. Stay tuned!
