Our school recognised the supreme sacrifices made by the many men and women who have fought to defend our country and way of life - the current, the fallen and the returned.

This year we once again held two separate services - one junior and one senior - to recognise these wonderful Australians and New Zealanders. Both services were extremely well attended and seamlessly run by our very talented student leaders. The junior school students all made a poppy garden along the stage which was then admired by the senior students. In both services the choir, singers and students all played their roles to perfection, providing our school community with a very professional and moving service.

Another highlight from these two services was every child's contribution to the class wreath that was then laid beneath the Australian flag. Each wreath was unique to each class and the making of the wreath was an opportunity for teachers to explain the many traditions of ANZAC Day services and the significance of the day.

Our Senior School special guests included:

  • Mr Michael Crandon - Member for Coomera

  • Councillor Cameron Caldwell – Councillor for Division 3  & Coomera Rivers School Council Member

  • Mr Ken Golden - Order of Australia recipient & Representative from the North Gold Coast Region RSL Sub-Branch

  • Mr Vic Graham – Principal Coomera Rivers State School

  • Mrs Corina Profke – President of Coomera Rivers P&C Association

  • Mr Jason Raffin– Former Royal Australian Infantry Corps & HPE teacher Coomera Rivers State School

  • Mr Joe McGhee - Bagpiper from Aussie-Scot Events

  • Mr Elton Farmer – Bugle player.

Once again our special guests joined our student leaders for a special afternoon tea and students were given an opportunity to ask questions and hear stories from each of our guests. Piper Joe demonstrated tunes on the bagpipes and entertained all who attended.

Thank you sincerely to the families, students and staff who stood together in recognition of this significant part of Australian culture. These services are certainly a valuable part of our school culture.
