WOW WOW WOW! What an AMAZING experience! On Tuesday 31st July our 98 strong (years 1-4) Wakakirri team met at 10am under the Cafe Undercovered area. We then made our way to the Logan Entertainment Centre where we stayed till the end of the concert at 9pm.
Our team was absolutely fabulous on the day and they had an ball making memories I'm sure will last a lifetime! Throughout the day we had our rehearsals on stage, watched other schools rehearse, hung out backstage playing cards, board games and colouring and ate pizza! After dinner the teachers face painted 98 faces 😳 and we took to the stage and made Coomera Rivers history as our first ever Wakakirri performance.
Our school was brilliant and myself (Mrs Blyth), Mrs Morris and Miss Chapman are still BURSTING with pride and a tinge of sadness at no longer spending our Friday afternoon with this amazing bunch. We did have a comment at the end of the night from Bella "Can we just keep having rehearsals?"
Although the students are all saying we WON Wakakirri 😝, there actually isn't a winner for the night. We did however receive two awards for 'Best Individual Make Up and Hair' and 'Best Creative Use of the Signature Item' (plus a 'Participation Award' which the students are counting as a third!).
From here we wait for the rest of our region to perform and they then announce who receives a "Story Award'. Story award winners perform again in a finals round and they then choose the best National Story (The overall winner for the year).
If you have missed seeing our Wakakirri team in action, we will do our final performance on Friday 10th August at Senior parade so that all of our school students have a chance to have seen what is involved for Wakakirri. (Awesome Wakakirri parents, please send your child in costume under uniform for this day)
Everyone is so excited that this was our first Wakakirri, but definitely won't be the last! Thank you to everyone for your support of our journey.
