Sport and fitness

Participative sport

Fun, fitness and friendship.  These three words epitomise what our school promotes whenever we step outside and onto our courts and fields.  We believe that sport is for everyone and therefore we strongly encourage participation over competition.

Daily fitness:          Each school day, our students participate in KidFit activities which improve fitness levels, coordination, skills and knowledge of games.

Running Club:          Our running club operates at two levels.  The general club enjoys running before school and we keep data on student distances, class distances and school collective distances.  Already this year (early March) we have collectively run over 3300 km.  That is very impressive.  And what makes this time even more pleasing is the number of families who join in as well.  Every running club day there are mums, dads and little brothers and sisters participating with us.

The elite runners group participates in three training sessions each week.  This program covers sprint training, distance training and track, strength and agility training all under the watchful eyes of our very talented staff.

Class fun competitions:
We hold special lunchtime competitions during lunchtimes each term.  Sometimes we have a competition to find the cricket champions, sometimes it is handball.  We often have opportunities for students to play staff in Touch Football, Netball or Oz Tag.

Social tennis:          We promote tennis at our school and will soon have coaching and opportunities for social tennis for families.  Last year Todd Woodbridge came to our school and presented each of the Prep students with their very own tennis racquet, compliments of ANZ Bank and Tennis Australia.

House carnivals:          We hold three house carnivals each year - cross-country, athletics and swimming.  The focus is on fun and participation and we want to have everyone involved.  Separate selection trials are conducted to select students for the school teams.  Our four school houses are
  • Colman
  • Foxwell
  • Pedley
  • Siganto

After school sports activities:          Many of our students also participate in private after school sporting activities each term.  Regular activities include:
  • Siba Soccer
  • Milo In2Cricket
  • GMG personal fitness training for kids
  • Auskick AFL

Watch the newsletter for when these activities are available.

Competitive sport

Some students thrive on the challenge of competition.  And while we coach and manage sports teams, we always promote sportsmanship, team work and continual improvement.  Competitive sport is available to Year 5 and 6 students in a wide range of sports and activities.

Inter-school sport:          Senior students are able to trial for selection for the school teams to compete in the district competition against other schools in our geographic area.  We participate in a range of sports including Rugby League, Netball, Soccer and Touch Football.

All-schools events:          Our senior students are able to trial for selection in school teams to compete at three All-schools events.  These sports are AFL, Touch Football and Netball.  These carnivals are usually weekend events and are usually some distance from the Coomera area.

Representative sport:          The representative calendar will show the sports that we promote at school.  Both boys and girls trial for school selection at the Broadwater District trials.  If successful they will then compete at the South Coast carnival and then the state trials.

In recent years, we have been successful at all three levels in Swimming, Hockey, Rugby League,  Rugby Union, Touch Football, AFL and Netball.
